Title: Technical SEO Product Owner
Location: Remote (CST Timezone)
Duration: Contract to Hire
Work Requirements: U.S. Citizen, Green Card Holder, or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
Summary
We are seeking a senior-level Technical SEO professional to support one of the largest and most complex consumer websites in North America. This role will serve as the technical SEO authority across Marketing and IT, owning crawl/indexation strategy, sitemap health, and large-scale SEO execution.
This is not a content SEO role. It is a hands-on, execution-focused position for someone who has worked on very large websites (100K+ URLs minimum; millions preferred) and understands the technical challenges that come with scale, auto-generated content, and frequent publishing.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and troubleshoot crawl and indexation issues across a site with tens of millions of URLs and daily content growth.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to crawled but not indexed pages, crawl budget limitations, canonicalization, and robots directives.
- Lead sitemap strategy and maintenance, including segmentation, error resolution, prioritization, and ongoing governance.
- Develop and execute strategies to manage thin, duplicate, or templated content (e.g., obituaries, location pages, listings) while balancing SEO and business requirements.
- Monitor and proactively improve Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) in partnership with IT and development teams.
- Act as the technical SEO liaison between Marketing, IT, and Development.
- Translate SEO findings and consultant recommendations into clear, prioritized, dev-ready requirements.
- Influence teams without direct authority by aligning technical SEO work to business impact and performance goals.
- Own SEO prioritization inputs for sprint planning and release cycles.
- Use tools such as Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, GA4, and performance monitoring platforms (e.g., New Relic) to identify issues and track improvements.
- Assess and respond to Google Core Updates and algorithm changes; communicate impact clearly to stakeholders.
- Establish documentation, tracking, and governance to ensure SEO fixes scale and do not regress over time.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on technical SEO experience working on large, complex, content-heavy sites (millions of URLs strongly preferred).
- Deep understanding of Crawl/indexation behavior, Sitemap architecture at scale, Canonicalization and duplicate content management, and Technical SEO for templated and auto-generated pages
- Strong knowledge of Core Web Vitals and experience partnering with developers to implement performance fixes.
- Ability to read and interpret HTML and JavaScript.
- Proficiency with Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4; Sitecore experience is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Sitecore CMS and Azure-hosted environments.
- Experience operating in Agile or sprint-based delivery models.
